This covers ChatGPT chat, web and desktop. The desktop app’s coding view is configured separately; see Codex.

Before you start

  • ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu. Custom MCP apps aren’t available on Free, Plus, or Pro.
  • You must be an Admin or Owner of the workspace.

1. Turn on developer mode

Go to Settings > Security + Login and enable Developer mode. This lives in your regular account settings, not workspace settings.

2. Create the app

Go to Workspace Settings > Apps > Create, and fill in: Rippit registers ChatGPT automatically, so there is no client ID or secret to generate.

3. Scan the tools

Run the tool scan. Rippit’s tools should appear in the list. If none appear, the server URL is wrong or unreachable. Confirm it reads exactly https://mcp.rippit.com/mcp.

4. Connect and test it

Click Connect, sign in at app.rippit.com, and approve access. The consent screen describes the app as unverified with self-reported details, which is how automatically registered clients are always labeled; see Security. Then start a new chat, select Rippit from the + (tools) menu, and ask something read-only such as “List my Rippit data sources.” Confirm real data comes back.

5. Install it for your workspace

Publish the app and install it for all users, so nobody has to add it themselves. On Enterprise and Edu you can also scope which users or groups get access, and which actions the app may take. Installing for everyone removes the setup step, not the authentication step; each user still signs in to Rippit individually.
On the Business plan, published apps cannot be edited. Changing tools or metadata means recreating and republishing, so make sure step 4 fully worked first.

6. Confirm with an end user

Have one non-admin colleague run through End user setup before you announce it.

Keeping it current

When Rippit ships new tools, open the app in Settings and use Refresh to re-pull its tool list. On the Business plan this means republishing.
