Connect Linear when customer conversations need to become product or engineering work. The Rippit agent can use the context it finds in your conversations to look up related Linear work, create new issues, and keep existing work up to date.

What the agent gets

  • Issues and projects, including search and detail lookup.
  • Comments and updates that provide context on current work.
  • Issue and project creation and updates, when you enable the relevant write tools.
The exact tool list comes from Linear and may change as Linear expands its hosted MCP server. Manage tools on the connection card always shows what your connection currently exposes.

Setup

In Rippit, open Connections → MCP Servers, choose Linear, and select one of these identity options:

Linear API key

Create a personal API key under Linear → Settings → Account → Security & Access. Limit the key to the permissions and teams the agent needs, then paste it into Rippit. An API-key connection is organization-wide and acts as the Linear user who created the key. Use a dedicated Linear identity and a narrowly scoped key rather than a key with broad personal access.

Your Linear account

Choose OAuth to sign in to Linear and approve Rippit. There is no Linear OAuth application to configure first. An OAuth connection acts as the Linear user who authorized it and can reach the work that user can access.

Connection scope

Linear connections are available in agentic chat only to Rippit Full Admins. OAuth connections can be personal or organization-wide: a personal connection is available only in the Full Admin’s own chats, while an organization-wide connection is available in every Full Admin’s chats and to scheduled Agent Apps. Linear API-key connections are organization-wide. Every connection uses the Linear identity that authorized it or created its API key. Sharing the connection does not substitute each Rippit user’s individual Linear permissions, so connect an identity with access appropriate for everyone who can use it.

Write access

Rippit requests Linear read and write access during OAuth so you can enable write tools later without reconnecting. The connection still starts read-only: tools that create or update Linear work remain off until a Rippit Full Admin enables them under Manage tools. Use a read-only Linear API key if the connection should never write, even if someone later changes the Rippit tool selection.
